Ranking methodology

How CampusGrader Builds College Rankings

CampusGrader rankings use approved student experiences, transparent rating categories, review-count context and a consistent eligibility standard.

A Transparent Ranking Process

Rankings are designed to help visitors compare published college profiles without treating one review, reputation or popularity as a complete measure of the college experience.

01
Approved reviews only

Pending submissions remain moderated and never affect public ratings, grades, ranking positions or review counts.

02
Minimum review eligibility

A college must have at least three approved reviews in the selected ranking category before receiving a numbered rank.

03
Confidence-adjusted ranking order

Approved review volume adds context so one unusually high or low rating does not control the ranking.

04
Rankings change over time

Positions may change as additional reviews are approved and college profile coverage improves.

College Rankings FAQ

Questions About CampusGrader Rankings

How does a college qualify for a numbered ranking?
A college must have at least three approved reviews in the selected ranking category. Colleges below that threshold may appear in the Building Review Coverage section without a numbered position.
Do pending reviews affect college rankings?
No. Pending reviews remain moderated and do not affect rankings, star ratings, letter grades, comparisons or approved review counts.
Why does review count matter?
Review count provides confidence context. A college with several approved reviews has broader coverage than a college with only one rating, but popularity alone does not determine ranking position.
Can rankings change after new reviews are approved?
Yes. Rankings are dynamic and may change when new reviews are approved, category averages change or more colleges meet the minimum review requirement.
Are category rankings different from overall rankings?
Yes. Overall rankings use the approved overall rating. Category rankings focus on Academics, Housing & Dining, Safety & Support, Cost & Value, Campus Life or Career Support.
